The Basics of Skateboarding

Here are a few basic skills that a skater must know to get started in this sport.

First, you have to get to know your board so that you would learn how to maintain it as well. Second, learn to push with either your right or left foot, and decide which stance you are more comfortable with. Third, try turning in different directions on your board and be familiar with how it responds to your movements. Fourth, learn to do a kickturn, which is done by lifting the board in one end while, at the same time, pushing down the other and then turning 180 degrees to the left or right. Fifth, experience skating in many terrains and in different styles so that you would become a well-rounded skater. Sixth, do not be afraid to fall down or get hurt by facing your fear and conquering it. Last, and in relation to the previous one, be sure you skate safely by knowing your limits and putting on the right gear, not only to avoid serious injuries, but to lessen them in the event that they cannot be avoided.

So practice, develop your own style, and enjoy skateboarding.
